Perminate Link for eBay Stores Displaying Inconsistent Counts   eBay Stores Displaying Inconsistent Counts

Sellers noticed that their Stores are displaying inconsistent counts of the numbers of items in their individual Stores.

"eBay can't make up its mind whether my store should have 189 or 136 items. (should be 189). When I flip through my 7 store pages, everything seems OK and it shows 189 items until I get to page 5. Then all the sudden it shows 136 items and only 5 pages. And then again, once in awhile it doesn't," wrote Primsaw.

Other sellers chimed to say they also saw the problem, and Begah wrote, "I'm having the same problem. You'd be interested to also know that when they magically disappear from our stores, they are also magically disappearing from search as well!"

A screenshot of Primsaw's Store items follow - it shows "page 7 of 5" with 137 items. The first page had said "191 items found in All Categories."

The thread began on Wednesday evening in the eBay Stores discussion board with the title, "Glitch of the day. Store losing and regaining items at light speed."

Update: 3/6/08: I received an email this evening from Ajay Agrawal, Director of eBay Product Development, stating that the problem is now fixed.

Soon, we'll be hearing from Ming stating that it must be eBay manipulating the listings to have the seller relist the item again.

After all, eBay thinks all sellers are stupid and will assume that the listing expired and that the item must be re-listed. That way, eBay can re-collect listing fees on the same item.

Yes, the conspiracy theorists will have a field day with this one!

Hopefully, the technical problem will be fixed quickly and that affected store owners will be compensated somehow for the potential lost sales. How about another 30 days of listing the item at NO COST?

Conspiracy theory or not, I think it most noteworthy that we are having SO MANY GLITCHES, ALL of which are affecting listing counts, during the boycott.  Funny how these things weren't happening before.

Anyone with a brain would know that there should be fewer listings than there had been due to the fact that THOUSANDS of sellers have removed their listings, closed their stores, and are setting up shop on ioffer, OLA, wagglepop, Bidville, eCrater and several other sites.

THOSE sites are seeing their numbers rise.

Funny that eBay is too......

No . . . let me take that back . . . it's not funny at all.  It's sad, sick, and possibly criminal.  They can call these things a glitch all they want.  All I can say is, "That's easy for them to SAY."

What else does anyone expect them to say?  Donahoe isn't going to stand up on his hind legs and announce, "Oops . .. heh heh . . . ya caught me.  Yup, I've been padding the listing counts.  Didn't think you'd notice.  You guys are sharper than I gave you credit for.  Can we all be friends again if I let you neg your buyers again?"

Ain't gonna happen.

eBay is lying through its teeth.  Anyone who believes their denials . . . how about if I send you a money order for your widget, I'll send you an extra $5000 which you should wire to my sister who is studying (how to rip off gullible Americans) in Nigeria . . . my shipper will pick up the item Saturday.....

Why not?  Sounds like you'll believe anything you heard on eBay......

BOYCOTT VICTORIOUSLY . . . until they get IT.

Bob H:
I am not into conspiracy theories and over dramatization in general but just think about this: Never had ebay had a glitch which showed my items on, let's say, featured area.
Glitches are very much one sided, don't you agree?

Mine has been doing this for months. It took me awhile to notice - ebay has never had an explanation for this, so I just kind of let it go.

'twas posted: Yes, the conspiracy theorists will have a field day with this one!

Unfortunately, ebay's near daily behaviors (glitches?) and then near total silence except the occasional foot in mouth ("it was a test.... no I was wrong when I said that, it's a glitch and now its fixed") are like pouring kerosene on a fire. Ebay is positively putting out the red carpet for conspiracy theories now. They aren't even trying to spin their own good anti-conspiracy copy.

Bob "I'm Not an Ebay Employee" H:

It gives me such pleasure to see that my comments and observations are getting under ebay's rather thin skin, and I thank you for your empowering recognition.

I guess if you don't like what you read in these forums, you can leave. After all, no one here owes you comments that you approve of or agree with. I realize ebay is and always has been uncomfortable with free speech, but posters are here to make comments whether ebay likes them or not, and the Steiners are entitled to run their boards as they see fit.

So I and perhaps others invite you to go somewhere where your comments are more appreciated than they are here -- like ebay's in house bulletin boards or email system or staff meetings where all these insane ideas you guys come up are floated around.

During my long tenure as an ebay member, I have yet to see as much as a single "glitch" that fell in favor of the seller.

What I have observed are

1. "glitches" in bookkeeping and invoicing resulting in sellers being overcharged.
2."glitches" in all past and present SYI forms that overcharge sellers
3. "glitches" that re charge sellers for restoring photos that other "glitches" stripped from listings
4. "glitches" that cause the balance due in seller accounts to fluctuate up and down several thousand dollars in a matter seconds in the absence of either listing or selling activity
5. "glitches" that cause items to be listed twice without the seller's knowledge when the seller listed it only once resulting not only in double fees, but often months of fees paid for non-existent inventory because the seller doesn't know it's listed
6. "glitches" that cause store listings to double list as they were being listed to such a extent that a store rep had to recommend shutting down the store and re-opening it
7. "glitches" that destroy sellers' Blocked Bidder files
8. "glitches" that change seller preferences without the seller's knowledge
9. "glitches" that destroy scheduled listings
10. "glitches" that cause ebay employees to chronically misrepresent the facts
11. "glitches" that cause ebay employees to refuse to follow ebay policies
12. "glitches" that cause 'customer service employees' not to respond to member submissions
13. "glitches" that consistently enable hackers to steal and post sellers IDs, passwords, and credit cards in several locations on the internet
14. "glitches" that somehow destroy ebay's ability to audit seller accounts on request
15. "glitches" that cause entire threads not to ebay's liking to just vanish from discussion groups
16. "glitches" that caused ebay executives to sell thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of ebay stock just days before The Prima Donna Hoe announced ebay's impending Armageddon whose very timing may be strategically linked to stock sales.

One wonders if this "glitch" isn't more properly called insider trading and whether all these appearing, disappearing, and re appearing shopping.com listings are part of a master strategy not only to obscure the effectiveness of the boycott but, even worse, along with the timing of The Hoe's announcement, part of a coverup of insider trading through a series of these so-called "glitches" and "tests" that ebay may think gives them plausible deniability.

In any event, the extremely well timed sale of ebay stock by ebay's upper management should be reported to the Security and Exchange Commission.

17. "glitches" are causing the listings of Powersellers with the highest ratings to appear much further down the Best Match searches than sellers with much poorer ratings.

Well, really, the list of ebay "glitches" is really endless so I'll stop here.

Ebay is like an onion. The more layers that are pulled away, the stinkier it gets.

while i can't speak for anyone else,we normally carried about 180 items in our store at ebay and when the new policies started coming out, we took 170 items out of our store.we had 8-10 left in there but the listing numbers said we had 31 items for sale.after seeing this we knew what ebay was up to and removed the rest of the items in a angry manner.we left ebay to never return.we won't line the pockets of such a corrupt corporation.we moved to blujay.com where things are growing very fast.your loss ebay.

Don't make the mistake of minimizing and marginalizing -- two of the most common tactics used to discredit whistle blowers and truthtellers -- those who believe a conspiracy is taking place behind close doors.

What one person may regard as a conspiracy another person may regard as a multipronged, multilayered distraction strategy designed to divert attention away from one or more things that a corporation doesn't want to be clearly seen and evaluated.

This is the kind of 'business strategies' that are taught in business schools and, if you don't grasp what these people are capable of, you will be condemned to a reactive mode forever.

PUT EBAY ON THE DEFENSIVE! Contact your federal elected officials and ask for an investigation of possible insider trading and other anti competitive ebay practices that have been discussed in other blogs. Make a formal complaint to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Email the news media and business press. Let's create a sky full of substantive smoke that even Bear Sterns can no longer afford to ignore denials and protestations whining "conspiracy theories."

Thank you, Mr. Ming. I agree and have quoted your words of wisdom. Check out squidoo.com folks. Someone on eBay Radio told Griff this a great way to get your message out. When people search on eBay they find your ''lens''.

Thank you Auctionbytes.com for keeping the public informed. Please let us know what WE can do to support you.

This is a repeat offender glitch. It happened consistently through August 2006. Something about stores search being run on a different type of search engine or something like that made it take longer. It also caused back then the internal search to not work on stores AND the listing counts in view sellers items AND the search box if sellers had it displayed on their listings. Either way, it was something that was easily fixed the last time but it took 1 seller losing 10,000+ media products raising hell on the board for them to address it. imagine how many more are losing because of this. Its the volume sellers who wont realize it, they fork out massive amounts of money each month, I bet they'll be really irked find out ebay bwoke it again. Sloppy glitches like this happen because they dont have any checks and balances in their process control. They actually have a QA department? HA. I mean Quality Assurance, not Glitch Again. Sorry if you had fixed it properly back then it wouldn't have happened again. I told you so!

Hi. I just started selling on Amazon and eBay.  So far so good.  I netted over $1,800 in my first month with more than half coming from eBay.  I know you're all tee-d off about the fees and DSR's but can someone tell me exactly what all this is listing stuff is about.  How is this listing discussion going to impact me?

John, what do you mean how will the listings impact you. you mean about the inconsistent counts? When its broke, and that can be missing, held, disappearing or flickering/ghosting. When that's happening other people are not seeing the same list you are. You could have 50 listings you see in your selling screen, but only 45 on your view sellers list (the list buyers see). .. add to that, its not such a rare occurence that a buyer will see 40. and that means potentially 10 can't be searched for. It happens, just go over to the search board as ask about disappearing listings. the only thing consistent is that it's consistently broke in one shape or another
