Lots of Bing at Internet Retailer Conference |

I am in Boston at the Internet Retailer conference to chair the Small Retailer's track on Tuesday. The exhibit hall opened at 4 pm yesterday, and appears to be larger than last year. While it's early in the conference, there seems to be a certain optimism in the air, at least on the part of vendors as they gear up to schmooze with online retailers.
I stopped by to see what Microsoft had to say about its new Bing search engine. Jacob Horn said they have plans to launch campaigns around the Back to School and holiday shopping for the Cashback program, in which eBay participates and seems very popular with shoppers. Attendees are taking a lot of interest in the search engine, which has a shopping component.
I made it through almost half of the exhibit floor yesterday. Invodo is a service I hadn't heard of before, it supplies free videos featuring information about products that retailers can post on their websites, something I'll have to check further. And Veruta is a service that uses paid-search to target your website visitors after they've left your site.
There are many, many other exhibitors offering payment processing, ecommerce hosting, fulfillment solutions, paid search solutions and more. I'm doing some selective podcasting that will appear on the site later in the week.
As I was leaving, there was a networking event going on at the Westin next door called "Women in Ecommerce." Bernadine Wu of Fit for Commerce came up with the idea as a way for women in the industry to mingle at conferences, and she has formed a LinkedUp group. What a great, low-key way to network on the first day of a conference. There was also a "Tweetup" in the Westin bar, but people were engaging with each other, not their devices, from what I saw with a quick glance inside. Twitter was simply the tool to get the word out about the networking event.
I'm looking forward to moderating the sessions today, there's a great lineup of experts and retailers talking about email marketing, search marketing on a budget, negotiating with vendors, social networking, fulfillment, and finding an niche. If I can, I'll try to post more on Twitter, so keep an eye out.
