eBay will be introducing eBay Blogs, another way to give sellers an opportunity to market themselves, and as well as an eBay Community Wiki.

Will this be a real blog and/or wiki; or the typical hold everyone prisoner to eBay offering like the eBay Guides have turned out to be.

Blogging is a great platform for sellers, I just hope eBay doesn't mess this up for those new to the medium and who "don't know any better".

The eBay Guides are ok, but there are too many restrictions to writing a truely great guide. HTML restrictions, file size restrictions and the inability to link to pictures you already have hosted elswhere.

It must be extremely difficult to design these types of services with the requirement that "the writer and reader must never be allowed to have contact outside of this system".

Interesting feedback on the eBay Guides, Chuck. I haven't used them yet, but will try to get to it over the summer. The blogs & wiki info is part of the eBay Live agenda, so I expect we'll hear more about them in 2 weeks.

It'll be pretty interesting to see how this plays out. One of the big problems with wikis in particular is how to prevent abuse, spam, etc. If you don't have a large critical mass of community members pulling in the same direction to make the resource work (like wikipedia does), making this worthwhile can be a huge challenge.

It is awesome to see the work that we started in late 2004 with blogs and RSS at eBay finally being extended to the community. :) I have a feeling that this will be extremely useful to sellers.

Ina, I found the ebay ''How to'' blog page, http://pages.qa.ebay.com/help/account/blogs-ov.html it states:
To create a blog:
Go to http://blogs.ebay.com and click Start Blogging.

The page does not load for me? Is it available yet? Nothing on that ebay page states ''coming soon'' etc. ?

I'm interested in reading more about sellers using their own blogs to promote their auctions -- I'm playing around with just that at My Virtual Yard Sale . While traffic is good, I'm just not sure it's worth the time. Any ideas -- the blogs at eBay seem mostly non-coherent. Do you have any ideas?

Ebay blogs and Wiki are an excellent tool in my opinion to gain exposure for your eBay business. However, as with anything I think everyone needs to remember that if eBay controls these - it will ALL be regulated and as time goes on more stern measures and changes will be implemented - some rightly so because some people will try to take advantage of the system - (Spam) while others will simply feel like they are mistreated and get punished for something they didn't do. This is the ongoing problem and eBay wants to protect their asset to keep people from going outside their system to they can continue to collect their money... what does this mean... eBay will highly regulate this in my opinion BUT I don't think that means that sellers should not take advantage of these new tools and ideas! In fact, expand your eBay business to using social media!

One more thought I would like to include is a previous poster has mentioned... definitely use your own blogs to drive traffic to your eBay business and capture their info in an opt in.
