eBay Australia to Let Buyers Revise Feedback

eBay Australia announced a new feedback revision tool coming on October 13 that could signal what eBay may do in the US or worldwide. Unlike Mutual Feedback Withdrawal (which is no longer available to users), buyers will be able to revise the feedback, not just withdraw it. According to the Announcement Board post:

This new Feedback revision tool provides sellers with an opportunity to send a Feedback revision request to a buyer. Sellers will be able to use the Feedback revision tool if they feel a buyer should now be satisfied with the transaction (i.e. an issue was resolved) or if they believe a buyer may have accidently left incorrect Feedback in the first place. While the Feedback revision process is initiated by a seller, buyers have the option to accept or decline a request. Only one request can be made per transaction and sellers will have a limited number or requests available within a 12 month period. We suggest that sellers get agreement from a buyer to change their Feedback before initiating the process.

According to the FAQs, buyers will be able to modify feedback rating, DSRs and comments. Sellers will be allowed to send five requests per 1000 feedback earned per year, so every seller will have at least five requests per year.

Would sellers welcome this new capability? (Remember, this has been announced in Australia only.)

Wow so we'll be able to change 0.5% of our feedback. I'm guessing this means eBay will stop letting you appeal feedback left in error for free.

WELL GEE WHIZ.I'm so excited.All this means if you Suck up to the buyer to all his want's,just maybe he will change your feedback from bad to good.What an insult again to seller's.Ebay never ceases to amaze me.They still don't get.Seller's are also buyer too.

When is ebay going to give the seller something to protect himself against non-paying bidders and scam artist.Everything is buyer driven.Sellers have no rights at all,and NO RESPECT from ebay.That's why I left ebay last may.Won't sell or buy anything at all.

What about the second revision they are talking about. A Resolution Center for Disputes? ....Resolution Centre

From 21 October 2008 the current Dispute Console will be replaced by the Resolution Centre.

The Resolution Centre will be a one-stop shop for any post-transaction problems. Many processes including reporting an unpaid item or reporting that an item hasn�t been received will be streamlined and management of any open cases will be simplified and centralised.

Look for more details on the Resolution Centre soon......

Now eBay will decide if a NPB is a NPB? They will decide if a NPBD is valid or not?

''Shoot First - Ask Questions Later'' has been one of the biggest problems facing the eBay Feedback system since its inception.

For many, many years Brian Burke and eBay have continually tried to ''fix'' this problem AFTER the Feedback has already been left. That is BACKWARDS.

If a buyer has an issue with a transaction then give them a ''Tool'' to work with the seller in advance of leaving Feedback to resolve it. An on the record communication system just like the ''REQUIRED'' Un-Paid Item, UPI, system that sellers have to go through before they can place a UPI strike on a buyer's account.

BOTH parties need the opportunity to address trading partner issues. Buyers have 15 days of protection from a UPI and every opportunity to address a seller's payment concerns on the record through eBay. Sellers have basically nothing to protect them from a ''Shoot From the Hip'' buyer.

If just given the opportunity, almost every seller can resolve a buyer's issues if they just know about them in advance of the ''Surprise'' of Negative FB. In addition, on the record communication gives eBay the ability to spot and take action on the very few bad buyers out there that now ''Work'' the system to their advantage.

Putting in place an online ''Resolution'' system BEFORE Feedback is left is a win-win-win for everyone. Buyers have their issues addressed and usually resolved, sellers have an opportunity to fix a problem BEFORE it affects their seller reputation and eBay has a real fix on what buyers and sellers are doing. AND all this still results in bad FB for those sellers that refuse to address buyer concerns, exactly the way it should be. Plus and added bonus is REAL Differentiation between good sellers and poor ones.

This is just one more attempt after many years of backwards attempts by eBay to fix something that is so incredibly easy to address UP FRONT instead of on the back end. I just can't understand why eBay does not realize that Negative Feedback DOES NOT create ''Great Buying Experiences''. Buyers are NOT happy or satisfied when they can leave negative feedback, they are happy when the transaction turns out well, even if there is a hiccup along the way. Just give the sellers the tools they need to address the issue BEFORE the buyer leaves bad feedback and leaves the marketplace, not AFTER. HAPPY, SATISFIED buyers return, buyers that have a BAD experience and leave Negative FB have no incentive to return to shop again on a marketplace that just caused them an unpleasant experience.

My 2 Cents...(The same idea that I have been sharing with eBay leadership for more than 7 YEARS)

I completely agree with what you are saying and that is why we are currently working on this sort of system on our site. It should be ready in a few days. Naturally it would be a much better situation if eBay implemented this themselves but since they aren't doing it we are taking this step instead.

YES, it should be implemented here.
NO, it should NOT be limited to 5 per 1000. The odds that ONLY 1/2 of one percent of feedback is wrongly left is crazy. A better solution would be a maximum of 15 per 1000 OR unlimited so long as 50%+ success rate [ie buyer changes it] which ever is GREATER.

Sellers are too hung up on their feedback. If one seller dings them, they cry in their beers about it. There shouldn't be feedback withdrawal OR revision!! Buyers want to buy, receive the item and NOT have to worry about some seller with an attitude begging for feedback.

Here's some free advice for sellers: You want better feedback? PROVIDE BETTER SERVICE!!

Well, Ebay finally did it....I'm selling so little on Ebay now that it no longer matters what insane new policy JD puts in place. I know longer shiver in fright that he's going to suspend me or tell me I can't sell there anymore. The end result - I feel liberated. I've been able to adjust my budget and live on the sales I get elsewhere and off my website - and best of all....I get to read things like this, take it in stride and thumb my nose at Ebay and its wacky management.

You know if you give someone a negative on Etsy there is a small link underneath it that says "kiss and make up". Simple and fun as that - no overbearing iron fist. No in your face threats of suspension! I call it treating adults like adults!

ATTENTION: eBay Execs who read AuctionBytes! You should ONLY allow buyers to revise their feedback on negatives. Positives should remain positive or you're opening up another can of worms. Sellers don't feel safe selling on eBay right now.

This means that if buyer left you a positive, do not send a Feedback revision request. Duh!

In the details link of the announcement it says that a) only Sellers can initiate the FB Revision request & b) only Neg & Neu FB can be revised.

Sellers are ''hung up'' on the eBay Fees they pay and their Search Placement that are both decided based on their Feedback and DSR's from buyers.

What I suggest is that if a buyer has a problem, Real or PERCEIVED, then they simply communicate that issue to the seller so they can address it. Much of the Neg FB we get is from buyers that leave FB BEFORE ever contacting us with their issue, which in many cases is a non-issue after we have a chance to respond.

Feedback editing should be unlimited.

As before, if a buyer left negative feedback....that would end any communication.

Now, we'll communicate with the max number and then everyone after will be out of luck.

In my experience, 75% minimum of the neutrals/negs left are left without any contact made to the seller first.

OK...so if you get 5 automatically even if you are under 1000 feedback, how does the rest of it go?

For instance, we have 4700 pos. in the last year. If you get 5 feedbacks per 1000....that would mean we would get 20 per year (and if we could get up to 500, we would get to 25).

However....if they are doing
0-1000 FB, 5 REQUEST...THEN WOULDN'T IT GO LIKE THIS?

1001-1999, 10 REQUESTS
2000-2999, 15 REQUESTS,
3000-3999, 20 REQUESTS

AND WHERE WE WOULD BE....4000-4999 FEEDBACK, 25 REQUESTS.

So they will need to clarify this...

Would this include changing DSR ratings as well? Would each DSR count as a feedback change, hence 4 dsr's and a feedback = 5? So many questions I simply have no time for!
