There is a fair amount of speculation about eBay's new Diamond PowerSellers program and which merchants might be coming on board. Sellers are concerned since eBay negotiates one-on-one with Diamond PowerSellers, granting them deals that might make it difficult for existing eBay sellers to compete with them. (See New York Time article, "Buy.com Deal With eBay Angers Sellers.)
A source had told us that eBay was working with ChannelAdvisor to bring Shoplet.com onto the site under the Operation Catalog program. A review of Shoplet's eBay listings today reveals they loaded over 2,000 listings onto eBay in the last few weeks. The Shoplet account on eBay has only two feedback, both from sales made last week.
We have not confirmed that Shoplet is a Diamond PowerSeller, but those sellers listing items in the office supply category might do well to keep an eye on this new competitor, who lists 200,000 items on its own site.
I also was passed along another rumor that eBay's Seller Onramp and Outreach are no longer offering their services to sellers below Platinum status. eBay is no longer assisting with marketing to anyone without an account manager under these programs, according to the source, who said that sellers can still set up appointments, but they will not be given assistance. If anyone has more information about this rumor, please let me know.
