eBay is holding a 50-percent off listing fee promotion on December 10, 2008, on eBay .com, eBay Canada and the Parts & Accessories section of eBay Motors. The promotion applies to auction listings only, and only for durations of 1, 3 or 5 days. In addition, sellers must have a 12-month Detailed Seller Rating of 4.5 or higher on all criteria

Seven- and and 10-day listings are excluded from the promotion. All other fees apply, see the eBay site for details and restrictions.

Not that we really care because we havent listed anything on ebay for quite some time, BUT just for the record ebay never sent us any email notification regarding upcoming listing special. My fiancee didnt get notified either, and between our two ebay stores we generated roughly 22,000 sales in past 5 years or so, 16,000 feedbacks beetween the two accounts, and we both had 99.8 feedback with 4.9,4.9,4.9 and 4.8 DSRs...

We closed both our stores earlier this year after getting fed up with lack of listing exposure, deadbeat buyers and a lack of support from ebay. But, we generally still get updates from greedbay about listing specials.

Apparently we have voiced our displeasure about ebay's new policies just enough they'd rather we dont do business on their site which is fine with us.

Even at 50% off, why list when standard visibility places listings behind those that were placed for free by Diamond Sellers?

Somehow, Donahoe and crew think this is a bargain, but given the lack of buyers on eBay lately, it makes little sense even at a discount to expose one's self to the frustration and has become the dominant eBay experience.

Big deal! How about Sleazebay cutting their final value fees 50%? Now that would make a difference. You can always tell when the quarter is winding down and eBay is doing lousy. They drag out these worthless listing sales and hope to make their numbers look good for one more quarter. Just like their $1 "buy it now" contest was done to improve their pathetic page view numbers. EBay will do anything to cook the books. I'm so glad I no longer buy or sell on eBay. Can't wait for them to go belly up.

Yawn.  Whoopee.  Half off of what- 35 cents?  My 'lil heart is palpitating with excitement!  Not.  Like Ruth said-take half off the FVFs if you want to get serious, eBay.  Not that I'd list then either...

You really want listings to go up, then can the DSRs, let sellers leave feedback again, dump the PayPal only crap and lay off the 21 day holds.  For starters.

50% off or free...doesnt matter, sales are way down...page views may be up due to Ebay's holiday promo, but the sale through rate is plummeting.

Interesting, on the day that this sale is going on, there are major problems accessing eBay. There are several posts on the My eBay and Trust and Safety forums about Norton Security issues with various aspects of eBay, including the My eBay page.

Those with Norton security cannot get into the site, not even to report the issue.

Well well well...another sale eh? At the end of the fiscal quarter you say?  Who woulda thunk it?

Naw eBay, that forks been stuck in you - you're done!  Though a lot of venues have popped up in the last year, there is one that has taken the 'bay' by storm and that is Bonanzle!

I can honestly say that in the last 3 weeks, my sales have exceeded my best day on the bay and why?  Because I can offer my items cheaper because I don't have to pay the ridiculous FVF!

Naw eBay...you've gone and done it to yourself - I, along with thousands of other sellers are so done with you....even if you WERE, by the grace of God, lowered the FVF and pulled back some of the ridiculous policies, I doubt many ole time sellers would return - just can't trust ya anymore.

It's no longer a game of 'if' eBay will go done in flames, but 'when' it will happen - eBay?  ya didn't listen, now ya gotta pay the piper!

I think the mixed signals that sellers are getting from the ebay corporation is counter-productive.  Earlier this year there was a preference for the fixed price listing format and now for short term auction listings.  How can a serious ebay seller develop a coherent and stable selling strategy on the platform when the rules and priorities are in constant flux?  Does ebay senior management actually know what they are doing? Their behavior as expressed by their policies, promotions and fees, seems erratic and inconsistent to me.

Either way, a discount on listing fees isn't going to be enough of an incentive for many. The final value fees and mandatory paypal fees are also very high. These high fees cause the costs of goods on ebay to be uncompetitive with other venues.  In my opinion, it is very hard for sellers to make an adequate profit on the ebay platform listing dicounts nothwithstanding.

When I closed my account with the bloated Bay, I thought I would have to shop at many sites to find what I needed. Not so, Bonanzle & blujay.com , try them!! Leave paypal behind too!

Who Cares ! Ebay has become just another rip off story. They charge sellers huge fees on sales and then offer sellers no support in dealing with deadbeat buyers who take advantage of the horrible new feedback system. Evantually Ebay will go under, and I cant wait to see it happen.

I think Ebay is in for a shock today.  Don't think many sellers are going to take them up on their 50 percent off nonsense.  Today will be an eye-opener for them.

Big whoopi! So then we only lose half as much money to have our listings buried in search or not show up at all.
