eBay Testing View Item Page?

It appears eBay is testing the View Item page based on a link of a completed item page a user discovered. Any thoughts on the design, and is anyone able to bring up an active listing with the new design? More on this in tomorrow's newsletter.

Update 2/18/08 3:22 pm EST: Someone sent me this link and said, "And, the worst part (other than the ugly generic look) is the fact other sellers items are being displayed under related items (on a page that someone else paid for)."

Fabulous, just great! I wish more sellers would walk away from Ebay. They can go to ioffer.com and transfer their good name and auctions!!

We need to send a message to the jerks at Ebay. Enough is enough!

Seller has a DSR for shipping time of 4.0

When a buyer leaves feedback DSRs for a seller, eBay says that a 4.0 for shiping time = "quickly"

Yet, because the seller has a 4.0 for shipping time, eBay has a big, red beware notice on the view item page that says "This seller has low ratings for Shipping Time".

What's wrong with this picture? Once again, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, apparently.

eBay is cutting our throats with this new derrogatory comment against the seller on their auction page just below the bid button.

What is with that?

I thought eBay said that they were our partner... in what? Self destruct?

It wasn't bad enough that have ads that draw buyers away from our auctions - now this.

I can't believe that we pay increased fees once again for eBay to take all of our rights away and now they are adding warnings to push buyers away from our auctions....

eBay needs to stop now!!!

I really don't think it is necessary to billboard a sellers weakness. Precisely because it is not always a fair assessment of their behavior. I personally have missed completing the stars for a seller. Not on purpose, but because it is easy to do. I'm sure that seller thought I gave them low scores when actually I just didn't notice the stars and hit leave feedback. That is just not a fair assessment of how I felt. It was an all too easy over site without intention. I have no doubt it happens to others as often as it has to me, and we are looking at at least 50% of the feedbacks I have left in the last 90 days. eBay needs to shower some respect on those who keep their ship afloat. The hard working, disrespected, unappreciated, easy target, undervalued, under payed, overtaxed seller..... before it is ALL TOO LATE......It doesn't make or break me either way. That's just how I feel about all of this nonsense. Wake up eBay!!!!!

I've seen the actual listing on eBay, and you are missing something with your screenshot.

On the listing page, above the description of the item for sale, eBay is also showing thumbnail images of the seller's other items, and then ''View other items you might be interested in'' -- with thumbnails for items from other sellers!

The other sellers are effectively being given additional advertising time and space on the listing for which this seller has paid.

Between that, and eBay telling buyers ''leave a 4 for shipping time, it means shipped quickly'' and then turning around and telling the same buyers ''this seller has a - gasp - 4!! for shipping time,'' it feels like we've entered into some sort of absurdist theatrical production.

Waiting for Godot's listings??

One thing that isn't showing in the screen shot above is the two rows of thumbnails of COMPETITOR's actions ABOVE the seller's auction information. A buyer must scroll down past that to get to the item being offered!

The worst of course, is "red lettering" a seller for low ratings on shipping, when a rating of 4 is, by eBay's own definition, "Quick"! Besides, this seller paid for this auction. There should be no "subjective editorials" by eBay or anyone else posted on that auction without the sellers consent. Nor should other seller ads be listed before you ever get to see what this seller has to offer! Ridiculous.

At the top of that listing (not visible in the pic above) there is a line with 'sellers other items',

below that are 2 lines that link to similar auctions from OTHER sellers.

This seller paid for THEIR item to be seen, not 2 rows of OTHER PEOPLES items.
Is eBay going to give the seller that paid the listing fees for this item a percentage of any sales that may have been directed to OTHER SELLERS items ?
I somehow doubt that very much.

This seller had NO idea that they were being used as a guinea pig by eBay until some of the other sellers contacted them to let them know.

Let's think about this.....
Links to other sellers items in YOUR listing that YOU paid for.....

Red lettered warnings for shipping time although the seller has a DSR rating of 4, which eBay tells buyers is 'QUICKLY' when they are rating their seller......

If I had any doubt that eBay is trying to rid the site of small sellers to cater to the megasellers, it has been erased.

If you see competing auctions listed on YOUR auctions, take a screen shot and send that and a complaint to the California State Attorney General's office and the FTC for deceptive advertising and fraudulent sales practices - against Ebay.

You pay to list your item, you shouldn't have a competitors' auctions on YOUR listing. That deceptive and disgusting.

As for the commentary provided by Ebay, looks like Ebay is not trying to be a venue anymore. When they start adding editorial content they open themselves up to lawsuits for libel and damages.

Ebay is no longer a VENUE. It's a nightmare. If you haven't sold your stock yet, you need to do it now. The site is dying in front of your eyes. It's going to get worse, too.

I'm sorry Donahoe, what did you tell the employees 2 weeks ago ... oh yeah, don't answer the phones, don't respond to questions, and don't encourage any of those "noise makers" to stay.

Yeah, employees talk. Imagine that.
