As we reported in Monday's NewsFlash (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/cab/abn/y08/m05/i12/s01),and in a blog post earlier today, eBay Australia has begun rolling out the much anticipated (or dreaded, depending on your perspective) feedback changes to its site.  One interesting effect of the staggered roll-out, is that it allows users on other sites to "look into the future" and see how the changes will be affecting their feedback when it hits UK and US sites.

With that in mind, we had a little tool written this morning that will easily allow you to see what your feedback will look like when the changes hit the US.  Give it a spin, and leave a comment about how the changes willbe affecting you! Just enter the User ID and hit "Submit." Have fun and let us know how you do!

Update: While we are getting this data directly from the Australian and US sites,eBay will removing feedback left by suspended members and including repeat feedback.This may affect your feedback when the changes are officially rolled out to all sites.

In the old days, if you complained about getting an undeserved negative, the common response was, “Get over it.  It’s just a negative.”  Now that feedback is tied to Powerseller status, search and visibility, and seller discounts, negative feedback has become somewhat more than a mere blemish on your record.  We’re now talking about income, and one’s livelihood.  Under the new rules with my level of sales, if I get even one neutral or negative it drops me to a 99.9%, and three in one year brings me to 99.8%.  All of a sudden, inaccurate feedback assumes more significance.  For example, last week I got my first neutral in nearly a year.  The buyer claimed I didn’t state the record he bought from me had a “cut corner”.  He was absolutely and unequivocally wrong.  My description stated the record was a former radio station copy with dj markings.  A cut corner is a dj marking.  Given that experience, it’s made me believe that in creating these new rules, eBay now has some responsibility to ensure the neutrals and negatives a buyer receives are deserved.  I realize eBay can’t get involved in every dispute.  But if a seller says a vase has a crack in it, and the buyer leaves negative feedback stating the seller didn’t say the vase had a crack, then it’s an easy matter for eBay to check and rectify.  In any event, I will not be surprised if we begin to see some sellers taking legal action against buyers who leave inaccurate feedback, based on the fact the buyer now has the power to determine the seller’s financial status.  Before, it was “just a negative.”  Not anymore.

Our FB goes from 99.9% to 99.2% on Monday.   But more interesting.....

Looking at the Top 100 eBay PowerSellers*, 60% of them will no longer qualify for PowerSeller status after May 19th.  Though the stripping of these sellers PS status may not be fully complete until July 1st, it is quite obvious that the majority of Top eBay Sellers cannot meet eBay's selling standards.

These sellers have had since January to change their ways and have not been able to do so either because it is not economical to do so under the eBay fee structure or they just don't care because their sales keep on going without adding the substantial costs to meet eBay's standards.

Until eBay actually gets to the point where they refuse to accept further listings from these sellers or pushes their results to the absolute bottom of search results regardless of ending time, these sellers will just keep on creating ''Bad Buying Experiences'' because eBay keeps letting them on the marketplace.

EBay has made all these changes to the detriment of its best sellers and lets the worst sellers still participate.  What is the point?  All I see being accomplished by this is the eBay marketplace as a whole will look far worse on Monday May 19th than it did the day before.  FB percentages for ALL sellers, good and bad, will drop on Monday and a huge influx of far more unrestricted negatives will soon follow as buyers will have absolutely no accountability what so ever for the FB they leave on the site.  

And to make things even worse, I just received a confirmation email from eBay Trust & Safety that a buyer demanding a full or partial refund under the threat of Negative FB, even if the ad posting specifically says NO REFUNDS, will NOT be considered FB Extortion.  T&S feels that buyers should ALWAYS have the option to demand a refund no matter what Terms of Sale they agreed to with their purchase.

Just wait till Monday if you think your FB looks bad on the Australia site today, it will be far worse in the coming weeks and months for good sellers and bad.  It only takes just over two percent of the buyers to be troublesome for this whole system to collapse.  But then again, Brian Burke head of eBay Global Feedback Policy has already said live on eBay Radio that if FB gets too bad they will ''Adjust'' the PS and DSR thresholds to ease the standards.  Well they better start sharpening their pencils because starting Monday it looks like they are going to loose 60% of their Top Power Sellers and that is before feedback even starts to go all to hell under the new one way only feedback debacle.

And remember everyone, those top 100 or so sellers, they ALL have eBay management business cards, phone numbers and email addresses.  They will also be the ones at the special Top Seller events with eBay management in Chicago at eBay live.  The TOP Sellers are the ones that really get eBay's ear and if anything changes, it will be most definitely be to their advantage.

Hmmm...I have just over 700 FB's for the year, with 9 neutrals and zero negs.  And my FB percentage is 99.2.  (a neutral is a negative in eBayland)

I guess 2+2 doesn't equal 4 after all...

Well, mine will decrease, apparently without provocation on my part.  

Once again, thanks for nothing, eBay.  I haven't listed for a couple of months now, and may never again.  I'm just a casual seller, but I'd rather donate my items to charity than donate an more to eBay's bottom line.   eBay isn't contributing to my bottom line any longer.

mine will go from 99.9 to 99.6 thanks to 2 neutrals where the buyers did not say that there even was a problem before leaving feedback.  i suspect that problem will only get worse with ebay's "have no fear" message when buyers leave feedback.

eBay just isn't what it used to be. Buy X-Cart and do your own thing. Ebay is overpriced and doesn't have the results like it used to. Hence, ProStores...ugh.

I nearly got physically ill when I realized - while using your excellent, and hopefully, correct tool that my
Feedback had dropped one point from  99.6 to 98.6 even though all of my
feedback has been excellent -

This requires legal options for
the people who are being tabled by
false numbers that are being specifically given without merit by
eBay.

If this is not against the law, it should be....
Talk about false reports about sales etc.....
This has an effect on all of the USA.
If this entity can skew the numbers like this, what can we expect from any other business that relates to all of us in the future.

I think investigation by the SEC might help these people get another attitude-
then, again, when did the SEC get it right?  We need to re-align as common Americans on these issues.  This is simply wrong.  For so many reasons.

I have not been actively selling for a couple of years due to eBay's shameful practices, high costs, and low sell-through percentage.  (Our sell-through started at 45% and declined to 15-20% before we quit.)

However, now that the new system will DESTROY my 100% feedback, WHY WOULD I WANT TO RESTART SELLING?

Well mine will improve, hopefully it stays that way, but that is up in the air!

Interesting about the Power Sellers who might be losing that status.  Could never figure out how some of them kept that, with their terrible service level.

If Ebay is truly cleaning up on sellers that have terrible service, and not talking out of  both sides of their mouth, then it will be worth it.

What?! I've been a part time seller (and buyer) for over 11 years. I currently have 99.9%, NO neutrals, ONE neg (received a broken printer) and I will go to 98.6%? How the heck is this being computed? In fact, it DOESN'T compute! Argh.
