eBay Picks Shoppers' Brains

Communispace has created a small online community of shoppers to help eBay better understand them. An email invitation to buyers told recipients that if they joined Shoppers Connection, "You will help us understand the needs of online shoppers like you -what is important to you in an online retailer, how you use the web to shop, what concerns you most about online shopping, what websites you visit to shop, etc."

According to the letter, participants will receive periodic rewards ("cash rewards, prizes, and other free stuff"). AuctionBytes reported the news today.

This cracks me up.

eBay users have been doing nothing but giving suggestions to that company for years, but it wasn't interested. NOW it wants to hear from its customers? That bus has left.

Makes about as much sense as eBay saying it's going to appeal the French court ruling ''in the name of eBay users''.

Oh sure, it's all about us.

Given ebay's current totalitarian management, five year plan, and dictatorial philosophy, Communistspace would be far more appropriate.

The principal cause of ebay's horrendous business decisions is due to the fact that ebay management lacks much meaningful work experience.

An M.B.A. and a few cushy, dot.com 'job titles' don't adequately prepare them for the decisions they make. Clearly none of them can think beyond fiscal quarters, and they have little if any comprehension or concern for the collateral damage their destructive decisions are causing.

Wet behind the ears. So much so that none of them recognized or perhaps even cared that their latest little marketing scheme lacked only letter of meaning some entirely different yet serendipitously relevant.

It's about time the stockholders and the ebay Board hired some adults to run the playground.

Ebay: the world's most despicable corporation.

Hmm....an invitation - to BUYERS?? Many sellers are buyers, too. Wonder how many invitsations are to buyers who also sell. Let me guess.....probably zero. How arbitrary.

CommuniSPY would be a better choice for the name of this fiasco.

Ebay is not asking what shoppers are looking for because they want to make Ebay a better auction site. Their plans are to eliminate all the small and mid size sellers and keep some of the larger sellers to make a shopping portal that has NO auctions. They are planning to make Ebay like Amazon.com with no auctions at all. They are taking money off the backs of their current auction sellers to fund their new and improved Ebay Shopping Portal. Auction days are over folks. They are hiding behind the current format to fool these people who join Shoppers Connection into thinking that they are contributing towards making Ebay a better auction site. Nothing can be further from the truth.

Periodic rewards? Free stuff? Yeah, right. Ebay has never given away anything for free ever. There is always some hidden cost.

When Ebay is done extracting info from these people they will spit them out - just like they do with their current auction sellers.

Hey Ebay, we got you now. You get it? We know your agenda. Why not come clean so people can make other plans for earing their incomes and not lose their homes and their livlihood?

Communispace is an outside company used by corporations to figure out the best way to sell. Just as Channelwatch does ratings for other companies. This is kind of funny as eBay has nothing to sell. They should be selling to those who bring in the money. Not with short term fixes, but a long term solution.
eBay has to pay for these ''tools''. I can only give my opinion. I wish that eBay would have spent the money better, hiring people to police its own site. Make it a safer venue by verifying both buyers and sellers. Removing the fraud not with grand designs, but one at a time so as not to disturb the honest people doing business buying and selling. Both buyers and sellers will flock to a site where they do not have to worry about the secrecy and eBay interfering with communications.

With the money savings from using all these outside sources and the influx of buyers and sellers, eBay could afford to lower the fees. This would create an even greater influx of profits.
