One & three day auction Promo...?

I believe this is eBay's way of introducing their Sellers to the forthcoming Fee Increase they will be announcing in February... The Fees will be increased for Sellers listing an auction for either five or seven days...

I saw this coming with the "shorter duration auction" Promo they had last month...

They will use the data to show that Sellers want "shorter duration auctions" and that way they will have an excuse for the Fee Increase...

This Fee Increase for 5 or 7 day Auctions will also serve to continue the extinction of the Auction Seller...

Just as John Donahoe has planned it...

1 to 3 day auctions sure isn't a wise thing to do for anything that I list.   With the traffic down on the eBay site, sellers that fall for this listing sale, could see their auctions closing with no or just one bid.    I sometimes wonder if eBay management has ever spent much time at any "real live auctions."  sigh.

Does Donahoe think sellers are stupid?

This "sale" will be used to rationalize & justify a new fee increase.

Time for sellers to pack their bags!

1 or 3 days ? Another useless discount (I would not call that a promotion) and not for collectibles ? Nobody would list a collectible for 1 or 3 days and risk selling for a low price anyway.

Again proof that the ebay management has no idea how a sellers business works.

If this promotion will be used to forge the numbers and to bring in another fee increase, ebay will loose thousands of sellers and thousands of buyers. Sellers would never accept another fee increase. There would not even be another member strike, everyone would leave for good.

Actually this wouldn't be a bad thing for all of us and we would finally all go to other sites. With enough exposure in the press, we sellers could be back to a successful business.

Another useless gimmick to look like there helping sellers but without any large benefit to us.I am the classic small antiques and collectibles seller who has been with ebay since it's beginning and helped it become what it is today.I actually list MOST OF MY ITEMS IN THE COLLECTIBLES SECTION SO THANKS FOR NOTHING EBAY!!! I can understand excluding media as they are already discounting fees for that category.By the way collectibles listings were just shown to have decreased since last year ,this just proves there ass backwards aproach that is killing ebay .

Remember the 'good old days' when we used to get a Christmas present from eBay in the form of a ''free listing day'' between Christmas and New Year? Then it became a 10 cent listing day, then only certain types of listings, and now this. Absolutely useless. Greedy corporate bastards.

Quite frankly....ebay could offer free listing fees on a permanent basis, and that still wouldnt entice me to list there again.

What a JOKE!  Everyone knows that listings often don't get indexed into search for many hours and sometimes as long as 18-24 hours. Then toss in that horrible best match and you're just giving your fees to them without any prospect of anyone actually seeing your items. Does anyone AT ebay truly understand how disfunctional their site is now?
The word clueless comes to mind.

Interesting! Items listed hardly get exposed to search within the first 12-24 hours. How is this going to be a good deal?

There has to be another reason they are doing this, as someone else said, to collect data perhaps.

As my late husband used to say sarcastically when presented with something like this,'' Don't open your shirt, your heart will fall out''

I think if you list something for 1-3 days it should already be at least half off. This isn't a promotion as much as it is something that should be done anyways.

Like I have always said eBay isn't interested in a seller's profit, only that eBay can increase the chance that it sells on ebay. They don't want to lose the sale to another website. It seems very shortsighted though because all they accomplish is the loss of sellers.

I believe monster has nailed it. Another pathetic hocus pocus fee increase in february is on the horizon. I expect nothing less  from the clowns running the ebay circus.

perhaps they will keep the 1 and 3 day auction fees 50% off permanently.  By the way, do Diamond sellers get free auction listings too?

You can't gather a good audience for an antique or vintage item in 3 days. I know Mr Donahoe thinks buyer want everything to hurry up and be finished, and not have to pay higher prices because of a bidding war, but ebay was not founded on a platform of isntant gratification. Auctions are not like that. There is some "anticipation" and "excitement" with a longer auction. Anyone not willing to wait it out a few more days is not a serious or appreciative customer.

Ebay did not get to be where it is (when it was once successful before Meg left)by throwing auction listings up and down in 3 days. The 10 day auctions actually brought in the highest prices due to the length of exposure to the searching community.

Besides? What's the big deal? Insertion fees are little or nothing compared to the FVF's! That's where ebay pulls the wool over your eyes as a seller when they advertise these so called "specials".

Sorry, I didn't buy it. Try reducing the FVF's 50% along with the insertion fees, then maybe I'd consider having my last hurrah on ebay...

I think this was an effort to "prove" to the stockholders that no one is really interested in listing auctions any more. Wrong. Don't worry, the stockholders are not stupid either..

As most of us have already learned, ebay isn't about thanking their customers or, in fact, about showing any sort of appreciation for the billions of dollars small and medium sellers have earned for this ingrate monstrosity of a corporation.

Instead, Ebay is and always has been about greed and power that far exceeded "shareholder value." In the past, however, they were far more competent at concealment because few sellers looked beyond the surface.

One and three day auction listings are about increasing ebay's revenues, not sellers. They know that many sellers will forget and continue to relist under these durations long after this phony baloney "sale" ends.

It's also possible that some dimwitted consultant's spread sheet analysis told him or her that shorter duration auctions accelerate sell through rates.

Whatever ebay's hidden agenda is with this magnaminous promotion, you can bet your bippy that some wet behind the ears consultant with either extremely limited or no real world sales experience conjured it up from by mixing their MBA, spreadsheet analysis, Blackberry, and magic cube all together.

This curious carrot suggests that ebay has decided that one and three day listings speed up sales though I know of no evidence to support this idea. It is a listing strategy, however, that some customer service reps were strongly pushing about two years ago in what appeared to be an effort to dissuade sellers from using ten day listings.

There is nothing this hopelessly corrupt corporation won't do to survive. It cannot be believed. It cannot be trusted.

The best way to send yet another message to ebay management is to refuse to play the multilevel psychological warfare game they're trying to jump start here and continue to list in whatever ways benefit your business rather than what ebay thinks is best for ebay.

And always remember if their lips are moving, they're LYING.

Death to ebay corp.

Exactly O.C.D. You cannot gather a good audience in 1 or 3 days. I  have found I don't make as much money even at 5 days. 7 days seems to be the magic number for an auction.

Ebay, what a circus run by a bunch of clowns!
