eBay to Enforce Paper-Payments Ban Soon

eBay set January 15, 2009, as the day it would begin enforcing its new paperless payments policy in which sellers are not allowed to list checks and money orders as payment methods in their item listings. I will be running an article in Thursday's newsletter with eBay's answers to questions I had heard from sellers, feel free to comment below.

I wouldn't have much of a problem with it, but the buyers have yet to get on board. I have took down money orders as one of my options and I constantly get emails asking if I would accept them. It has turned into a customer communication drama that I rather not engage in. Ebay needs to do a better job at communicating with the entire community and assure sellers that negative feedback left for them will be retracted if it was because paper payments are no longer accepted.

They are really putting the burden on sellers, all in the attempt to capture more fees.

Hopefully this will be the start of buyers having to pay instantly for all items whether auction or fix price…the scourge of NPB is totally ridicules on eBay

come on guys- ebays never going to make you pay immediately for anything. it's not good business for them.when you relist stuff in frustration? they profit. and guess what you lose out. every fake sale on the site brings out the hungry with like items and then the markets saturated.

@loops, eBay does not forbid you to TAKE paper payments, only to ASK for them. If the customer asks to pay by check or money order, you are free to say yes.

But Ebay will be monitoring how often sellers do it. They want to muscle you into using PayPal - more money for them.

They can do this because it is their site, and they set the rules for their site, you are not required in life to utilize their site. It is a Choice. I am not a troll, ebay employee, etc. etc. I am not fond of all the ridiculous changes that have taken place in the last year or so.

Ina, all I would wish to let eBay know is customers like choice. If eBay is going to eliminate all choices of payment with the exception of a few it controls, the buyers will not be happy.

The ''Don't ask don't tell'' policy was stupid for the US armed forces and the bore the brunt of jokes for years, why would eBay attempt the same for checks and money orders?
I learned in college to look to the past in an effort to not repeat the same mistakes in the future. I cannot believe that I attended a better college than the people on the board of directors at eBay.

eBay should be concentrating its effort in streamlining easy buyer-seller communication, Squshing DSR fear by adjusting the parameters, and eliminating fraud by using people to scan and remove obsurd listings that flaunt policies. I also propose a country by country check off list for buyers to search for goods and a country by country check off list for sellers to allow bidders.
It isn't too late, eBay can be saved.

As a European seller on eBay.com I should be able to accept paperless electronic bank transfers from European buyers. In Europe the most widespread way of making payments. But eBay does NOT allow this in their paperless payments policy. Why? eBay wants buyers to pay through PayPal. Incredible how hypocrite eBay is. This has NOTHING to do with ''paper'' or ''paperless''!

Here is a simple solution to that. ''Buy will you take a check or money Order?'' Seller ''I would be glad to, but due to eBay's policy of no checks or money orders we will have to complete the sale off of eBay. Go ahead and mail me the (check / Money Order), After 7 days I will file a Mutual agreement to not complete the transaction. When you get it just agree to it. Nobody gets a ding, and I am able to sell it to you using a check or money order.'' PS be slick don't use the eBay message system. eBay wants to play games, so be it, hit them in the pocket book.

Here is a quote from USHER LIEBERMAN who is from Ebay’s corporate communications department:

“While eBay requires sellers to take Paypal, it is not forcing buyers to use this method.

Should a buyer insist upon paying with paper, a seller--at their sole discretion-–can choose to accept paper.
Sellers at no time may solicit a paper payment, but again, should the buyer ask, the seller may accept paper. We believe this provides sufficient protection and choice for buyers, without asking sellers to turn away business”. End Quote

This is one of the BIG REASONS I quite Selling and Buying on Ebay along with the NO FEEDBACK rules back in may 2008.I've always paid with either Check or Money Order,never a problem.It's all about GREED.

When these morons turn the bots loose on auction listings will they be able to tell the difference between checks (the kind you use to pay with ) or a line like check out my store.

If its Ebay as usual there will be thousands of listings cancelled.

Sellers do yourself a favor and get out before Ebay gives you ulcers or a heart attack.

Only morons will stay with a company run buy a bunch of morons.

Ebay makes us play by the rules but they break their own rules. There are thousands of fake antique listings on Ebay by Diamond sellers (jewelry, porcelain, carpets, pottery, and more).

Ebay is participating in fraud, yet they continue to tighten down the screws on small, honest sellers who made Ebay successful.

What a disgusting company. Meg, you can run, but you can't hide. Go ahead and run for Governor and see how things work out for you.

after ebay turfed me for NO reason in august i have relisted 1200 of my 5000 items.

time to cancel the 1200 and redo everything AGAIN.

why waste my time? i think i'll just go play at bonanzle.

One misguided bit of information amongst their many. One can not edit in bulk descriptions but only add to the description. As for Turbo Lister, is that function properly? As for ending/changing the GTC listings, if ebay cancels them it's not a problem. I already have set up my Yahoo Merchants account and will simply move them over to that site instead. Weaning away from ebay gets easier every day. Maybe they'll stop buyers from stating that they have payed with a check and then using feedback extortion to get the seller to send the (free) product? Ebays trust and safety is a misnomer..at best. Getting ready to say good bye to ebay very soon. They need sellers more than they know.

First of all I lose when people can't pay with their method of choice.
Secondly, you say to change in bulk with My ebay to to Description field - where in ____ is description field except in individual statements??????
