eBay is holding a 2-week promotion in which "eligible" sellers may list up to 10 auction-style listings for free. Unlike past promotions, the terms warn: If you qualify for participation, you will have received an email and a Message Center message. Please look for these to see if you are eligible.

The promotion applies to up to 10 Auction-style listings on the U.S. site and www.ebaymotors.com (Parts & Accessories only). It runs from March 10-23, 2009, and all other fees apply. It's not clear which sellers are eligible and which are not. The seller who received this offer said it was sent to the account they use for buying, not the one they use for selling.

See website for details and restrictions, and be sure to check your My eBay Message Center! I'll update the blog when and if I learn more about who qualifies for this promotion.

You're kidding, right?
10 free listings over a 2 week period?
That is nothing.
Bet it only goes to members that are not selling already.
It would be an insult to sellers that list a lot.
They will probably offer it to non-sellers who will buy a lot of extra features not knowing most are a waste of money.
The 10 "free" listings will probably make eBay a bunch of money.

Wow! What a generous mood eBay/Donohoho is in! What's next? Free ''auction style listings'' again? Really helps the sellers. Flood the eBay marketplace with trash, as usual.
San Jose: Cut the crap and B.S. promos and just FIX the mess you created the past year! Is that too hard? How about some transparency in the DSR's? Cut the Free Shipping B.S. that you force sellers to use, to get ''higher search rankings''. Last time I checked, I actually have HAVE TO PAY for using the USPS or UPS? Why doesn't eBay subsidize the sellers to give free S/H? Wanna be generous? Get rid of the zero feedback non-paying bidders! Cut the waiting period from 7 days to 4. If they are not paying in 4 days, they sure as hell ain't paying in 7! If you are so eager to become the next Amazon, institute Immediate Payment required on EVERY fixed price listing!
Wake up Ms. Norrington! Dinesh! Mr. B.Burke! It's still not too late!

I gave up on insertion fee oriented eBay promotions years ago when the $0.25 were still around.  Why work all those hours to save $3...we switched to $9.99 opening bids years ago and never have looked back.  Nothing is better than $0.35 insertion fees on items we simply want to sell.

Instead of insertion fee promo's we focus on the PS FVF refund promo's.  Like up to 40% off FVF if we offer Free Shipping and have DSR's over whatever the numbers are for the previous 30-days.  Granted eBay has seemed to play games with those numbers but to be honest we have been getting the 40% every month since I really started to understand the whole thing.

For us focusing on free insertion fees is like stepping over dollars to pick up pennies.

Still if a person has some higher priced items and does get the invite for this promo, then leverages it with a BIN option, it is a great way to pay a LOWER FVF compared to the Fixed Price format FVFs...so the savings can be HUGE if an item sells at the BIN or even the opening bid since you will likely put it near the BIN anyway.  I know I would do it that way.

Th last time I tried to take advantage of a listing fee special, the system did not give me the discount.  I asked them about this and they said I would have to send them a message when the listing ended in order to get the discount.  As far as I am concerned it was too much work to save a few pennies on a listing.  So I gave up on their promos.

And I am not going to offer free shipping so that they can get more FVF off of my items.  Does that 40% really make up for the difference?

@@@ Ina, Not a lot of action on this topic hey, Doesn't effect us because we don't sell there anymore. The article on your home page titled:......eBay Board Withholds Bonuses, Freezes Salary for Execs.......would have done much better with response's.

I don't think offering 10 free listings to those who have never sold before is such a bad marketing idea.

Oh boy! Another new "special" that can't help the small sellers on ebay! I was surprised it wasn't offered to only the power sellers like it ALWAYS is!

The only reason why ebay like to throw in some new sellers is to attract them into BUYING from the BIG sellers on ebay. They know fully well, these newbie  listings will be ripped off by the savvy  scamming buyers anyway, they are all about pleasing the buyers on ebay, even if it means enabling theft.

I agree with the first person to comment, Gary.  I think these types of promotions typically go to people who have not sold anything on eBay in the past to entice them to sell.  Bit of a shame really... :S

Damn, I honestly can't believe how awful this company is being run. This is such a joke. I list over 1000 items a week on Ebay and get hammered by insertion fees of .55 per item. Sales have slowed now, but the fees for items that don't sell keep piling up. Yet they make no offer like this to me, even though 10 freebies is nothing.

Why doesn't somebody over there at Ebay pull their head out of their a$$ and just charge seller like me a flat rate like Amazon does and let me worry about selling and not worry about cutting back.

If JD was in a room with 52 friends, how many of them would be there at the end of the 7 day auction?

Yes, and can those rocket scientists at eBay figure out WHY those folks have stopped listing?  Believe me, 10 freebies won't bring them back.

My buying ID got the free auction offer;  I buy 30-50 items a month and rarely use that ID to sell.  Another ID that my wife uses to buy (rarely) did not get the invite.  My selling ID did not get invited.

Ebay is an out of control locomotive missing the conductor. You see, the conductor bailed out years ago coming around the mountain pass. The train was meant to be a passanger train, but stopped for every sheep along the way.
Well, the sheep slowly come out of their clothes reveiling a wolf appearance. And they ate, and ate, ate. Everything they could on the train until there was no more food left, but scraps. The train is still rambling down the mountain, no conductor, filled with wolves, and a few hungry people that manage to feed on scraps. The few people that remain are Die hards, hustlers, scam artists, and a few blind folks.

I really hope some ebay employee happens to read this. I'm a small seller. I only sell a few things here and there, and now It's not even worth my time because of the fees! Why don't you pay the folks back by giving us a free listing weekend. Heck, make it a max of 20 listings...a free listing weekend would be nice.
