Zappos launched an outlet store on eBay last week called Great Price Store. eBay's Stephane Tilenius, who was speaking at the Internet Retailer conference on Wednesday morning, told attendees that Zappos launched its liquidation brand using its new Large Merchant Services API.

I can't find the Zappos store on eBay, and a call to Zappos 800 number  resulted in an emphatic denial that Zappos was on eBay, but the customer service representative pointed to their sister site, 6pm.com.

Tilenius also revealed that Mercent won an eBay Star Developer Award (the Developers conference is taking place this week in San Jose). Mercent launched SmartBargains.com and Altrec on eBay, and recently launched MyJewelryBox.com as well, using the LMS API.

Tilenius said eBay wants to partner with large retailers and launched into a pitch of how eBay is different today.

eBay is testing "flash sales," which appears to be similar to its Daily Deals feature but on a category basis. eBay is testing it in the Clothes, Shoes & Accessories (CSA) category in which it offers limited-time offers on certain products. eBay is experimenting in the CSA category and will then expand the program to other categories.

Tilenius showed a video of an advertisement geared to holiday shoppers, but did not say if the company would resume television advertising in the fall.

She talked about "trust" on eBay and said, "We're looking at rolling out a program this fall where we will enable the best sellers, so those with almost no low DSRs scores of one and two, to differentiate themselves even further." But she revealed no further details.

Edited 6/17/09 to clarify that I spoke to a Zappos customer-service rep, not a spokesperson.

''But she revealed no further details.''

Of course not. It's a secret. Did you sign an NDA?

Was her mouth moving? Therefor she was lying.

So I guess their Doggy Diamonds will NOT be on the list of "the best sellers" since they CLEARLY have HUNDREDS & HUNDREDS of negatives & 1 or 2 Feedbacks. Oh I forgot, Ebay will remove them for their bestest buddies, buy & shoplet. Thanks for the heads up, Ina, another seller to avoid. Glad I'm moving off Ebay, I can only imagine how much more buried good small American sellers will be in absolute worst match. Auctiva, hurry up with that auction site, use all the info Ebay gave you against them!

It wouldn't surprise me at all if one day all those diamond seller negatives just up and disappear.

I just noticed that one of those diamond sellers just received 4 NEGS today alone....Guess what....their DSR stars did not move and their feedback % of 98.3 is still the same as before the 4 NEGS....Go figure.

No more shopping on eBay for me. I'll go look for some smart bargains elsewhere.

Ebay is still trudging down that same stale path....new this week "we wanna be a big retailer?"  what will next week bring?  Well,  Donahoe hasn't thought that far ahead.  He can only handle one weak idea at a time - so stay tuned! :-)

Unkie Gruff said in response to a question that even though the Doggy Diamond BUY had at the time well over 500 negatives that "expressed as a portion of their sales, it's a small number". Yeah, right. Like to see an old school seller get away with 500 negs for non delivery & SNAD. I know after my 3rd fraudulent feedback alleging non delivery with over 7000+ (left within 24 hours of order, by the way from a zero f/b) I was constacted by Ebay and told my account was in jeopardy. I had to then contact the past bidders who told Ebay they HAD indeed received the items and were sorry. Even after all that, I still have all 3 negs which Ebay refused to remove, even after the customers also contacted the jerk from Ebay. Of course, we have seen the Doggy Diamonds neg f/b numbers & DSRs change already, in fact the change to 4.1 DSR suspension was to protect a Doggy Diamond too.So Ebay does not care about the buying experience anymore, at least if you are a Doggy Diamond. So for the classic sellers of goods that created Ebay, 3 negs MIGHT get you suspended, but a Doggy Diamond can steal at will, 500 negs in less than 3 months speaks volumes. We are not wanted anymore. Ebay is done. NOBODY likes Best Match, just look around, stock in the toilet, ebay sales off by more than the GDP of a lot of small nations, sales down $2 billion in 1 year, views off by more than a million, great work JD. Meanwhile the REAL Amazon has grown 29%, $5 BILLION in added sales this year. The only time I see Ebay in the press is when some girl tries to sell herself on Ebay for .99, a story currently on Cnn.com. Ebay is dead as the dodo.

''She talked about ''trust'' on eBay ...''

What does eBay know about trust? They don't trust their own customers. The trust and safety department should be called the distrust and insecurity department.

10th anniversary year of ''The Cluetrain Manifesto.''

*Markets are Conversations,
*Markets consist of human beings, not demographic sectors,
*Companies need to realize their markets are often laughing at them,(et cetera)

They just don't get it.

Tilenius is delusional.  There is no other explanation.

Typical consultant style powerpoint presentation, demonstrating again how clueless senior management is the feel of the site they are trying to manage by the book. Everything by metrics, never an original idea. Peter principle at it's finest.

I remember when Trust & Safety used to be called "Safe Harbor" - what a difference between then and now!

Attn: Ina and David - can you fix your code to be all black?  I am always inputting the code in wrong because I can barely see most of the numbers.  Surely I can't be the only one having a problem with it.

On the Internet Retailer top 500, Amazon is #1, Costco, Netflix, newegg, dell, Walmart, Target all right up there. So there's the next 3 months for genius boy, after Ebay fails to become Costco, well they already are Netflix, (without the fees & the seller also pays the shipping for the Ebay free rental DVD deal), next Newegg (oh wait, not enough sellers dumb enough to trust their high end electronics & computers to Ebay), Can't become Dell, they actually MAKE something, so I'm guessing next month's announcement from Dumbaho is "we want to be the new Walmart/Target". Really easy to make decisions about other people's goods. But of course, WE THE SELLERS decide Ebay's product mix, and WE THE SELLERS are voting on Dummyho's plans by leaving in droves & taking all our buying money along. Without WE THE SELLERS Ebay is nothing, does nothing, and has nothing. Still laughing that Stupid Tilenius makes her great big announcement to get denied seconds later, HAHAHA!

OMG! That is too funny! ebay is truly clueless.
Score another point for ebay's world class management as well as their new pr firm.

How can anyone trust such a corp?
(especially with their money and/or livelihood)

This is like de ja vu all over again.

This is that infamous ''if we build it, they will come'' mentality of ebay management. If this is the best news that ebay management can dredge up for its Large Merchant Services and work with Mercent, then they should be ashamed of themselves.  This mess with large retailers is beginning to look like a replay of Ebay Ad Exchange which was a massive failure. 'We don’t believe that eBay is going to get this right' was the withering pronouncement from the cable advertising industry, as I recall. I don't think they are going to get this right with large merchants and I don't see where they can move next after this failure.

It sounds like Zappos doesn't want it to be common knowledge about the eBay deal.

I can't imagine that Tilenius could be that far off in her very public announcement could she???

Interesting--

One company is proud as punch about the deal, and the other is almost ashamed.

More mysteries and dark shadows.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Even Zappo's knows ebay's name is MUD and is most likely trying to hide the fact that they're playing ball with them.

The announcement probably was written by those same geniuses that keep coming up with fee reductions that are in fact dramatic increases hiding under the skirts of a free listing promotion.

Someday, eBay will stop trying to swindle their customers with false promotions which are obviously designed to generate positive press headlines while at the same time allowing eBay to reach deeper into sellers pockets as they not so secretly increase fees on the back end.

Zappos most likely doesnt want to dilute their full price brand by associating with the pariah of Ecommerce. They most likely are on Ebay secretly, hiding behind another name. Pretty sad for Greedbay, even their Doggy Diamonds don't want it known they are onsite. Remember, Buy was secretly selling on Ebay starting in 2007. I'd search Zappos on Ebay, but Ebay's search no longer works with my old computer.
